Meet Helena
Certified Pilates Instructor & Functional Movement Coach
I didn’t really pay any attention to my body when I was younger and ended up with terrible neck and back pain due to poor posture.
I tried different methods to ease my pain such as Alexander Technique and Yoga. I visited several specialists including Neurologists, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists and Physiotherapists. Some methods helped temporarily, but none had a lasting effect.
I was starting to lose hope when I was referred to a Physiotherapist that recommended I attend Pilates classes following her treatment.
After a few weeks of classes I felt a difference. The pain in my neck and back was easing off, I could sit for slightly longer periods of time. After a few months I could start to become more active again, without pain.
I realised that rather than finding and relying on a therapist to ‘fix me’, I needed to take some time out to prioritise myself and listen to my own body in order to get better.
I needed to work on strengthening my supporting muscles and release built-up tension.
After having my second child I made the decision to leave my office based job and started teaching restorative Pilates in a quest to help others live an active and pain free life.
I have since also discovered and teach some groundbreaking additional muscle and connective tissue release techniques (Hanna Somatics and Self-massage/Fascia Release), that I use to further release stiffness and tight areas in the body.
